Abbazia Arneis Langhe DOC 2019
You may be unfamiliar with Arneis grapes, but that is about to change. Arneis grapes were on the verge of extinction as of the 1960s, with only a few hectares remaining worldwide. Their survival is owed nearly entirely to one persistent winemaker named Alfredo Currado in the Piedmont region. Without his determination, Abbazia Arneis wine wouldn’t exist.
After handpicking the grapes, they are pressed using a traditional winemaking system. A brief “batonnage” produces a wonderful bouquet in this wine, with notes of acacia flowers and green apple. On first pour, the wine is a pale yellow with greenish highlights that glint in the glass. The mouthfeel is smooth, well-bodied, fresh, well-balanced and persistent with hints of fresh fruits and a predominance of ripe apple. We recommend pairing with creamy, herbaceous pastas or roasted poultry.
